I’ve seen multiple posts like this, all mentioning bisexuality, or “bi” sex. But I think that label is inappropriate. First of all, it means you’re making assumptions about the gender of the people pictured here. Secondly, if they are male and female people, that still does not mean this should be labeled as ‘bisexual,’ because that conflates many different ideas that people have about the term ‘bisexual.’

If you’re talking about the orientation, then that presents a bigger problem: being bisexual does not mean 1) attraction to both men and women, it can be any two genders and 2) that you have sex with people of two genders at once. This is just continuing the stereotype that bisexual people have to ‘have both’ or are somehow hypersexual just because of their bisexuality.

This isn’t “bi sex.” Having people of differing genders involved doesn’t make your intercourse “bisexual.” The only time sexual intercourse is ‘bisexual’ is when it’s being had by a bisexual person. And again, we don’t know the pictured peoples’ orientation or gender.

I know that many people are aware of these issues and subtleties, but if people who aren’t as educated in sexuality and terminology see this image with that label, it’s only going to reinforce those ideas in their minds. Please consider omitting this kind of labeling in the future.

I’m reminded of that gif set from House, of Dr. Wilson asking Thirteen if she’d ever had a threesome, and she was like “…because I’m bisexual?” and then “Do you know what bisexual means? It doesn’t mean you have sex with two people at once.”

In all seriousness, reblogging for truth. Some of us do have sex with partners of two genders at once, sometimes - but it’s not *because* of being bisexual. It’s because it was a fun thing to do at the time. ;-)
