So! Many many thanks to my friends who wished me well this morning. Stella (my car) and I just got in a bit ago, safe and sound, and with no speeding tickets.
That last despite the fact that my fucking team…ahem. I mean, my beloved coworkers didn’t have the RFP ready for me to leave when we’d planned this morning. The plan was, they’d be in 7-7:30ish to finish everything up, I’d show at 7:45 for any last-minute stuff I needed to do, and I’d be on the road at 8 for the 4.5-hr drive. Due time was 2pm. My route took me through a fairly nasty traffic spot in the mornings for maybe 40 miles or so. Plus I’d need time to get a pass on base at the gatehouse, then find the place, then get final numbers to ink in, then seal the box and deliver it. 8am depart, arrive 12:30-1 depending on traffic, half an hour to get on base and find the right building, half an hour for final numbers and turn-in.
Only my wheels hit the freeway at 9 instead, because shit just wasn’t ready until then.
I will not go into the hijinks I pulled, or just how many layers of “no cops/don’t see me” shields I was holding around me, and I’m certainly not going to admit that I was going 85-90 whenever I got a clear stretch of freeway. Nope.
But damned if I didn’t pull up to the gate at quarter to 1 anyway. ^_^
There were plenty of cops on my drive back, but not when it counted, and considering the situation I think it went beautifully. So thank you again everyone. :-)
