Ozz asked me to post this and see if anyone else got it…he had to explain it to me, since I’ve never played any of the older FF games. And he’s very sad because his friends get the FFVI part, but not the B5 half, or there’s me, who got the B5 bit, but had to look up the FFVI reference/have it explained for me.
Q:Babylon 5 for the fandom ask meme you posted last night if you are still doing it.
Bake cupcakes for: Ivanova. She just puts up with so much shit and she could probably use cupcakes.
Also perhaps I could cleverly use that as a way of asking her out so idk.
Trust with the keys to my car: Lennier. Specifically, early-seasons Lennier. He’d be very responsible with it, and if he did anything with it, it would be to improve it and make it awesomer.
Put thumbtacks on their chair: BESTER who is the fucking slimiest awful thing ever and yet NOTHING EVER TOUCHES HIM he never gets fucked over for all the times he fucks up everyone else’s shit and basically I don’t care if it’s just thumbtacks in his ass I want to do SOMETHING bad that actually gets him.
Have a crush on: Ivanova and Marcus. No I’ve never OT3’d myself with them, why do you ask?
Pack up and leave if they moved next door: Londo. The parties might be good but he’s just so loud.
Vote for President: Delenn. Sheridan may have been President in name, but we all know who really ran that alliance.
Pick as my partner in a buddy movie: G’Kar. Spirituality and sass, yes pls.
Pair up: is this asking who I would pair up with, or who my OTP is? o.O
Vote off the island and into the volcano: BESTER AGAIN basically anything bad ever I would like to have happen to him please. God, even Morden doesn’t rub me the wrong way like Bester does, and he’s the human servant of the Big Bad. Ugh.
Wheedle into fixing my MP3 player: Lennier, or maybe just prod Vir into finding me a new one or something.
Do you guys remember ? :)
it was basicly the “let’s hope it works out this time” space station
#Babylon 1 blew up #Babylon 2 blew up #Babylon 3 blew up #Babylon 4 just up and disappeared #Babylon 5 #well that one stayed put #And that’s what you get Sinclair #The strongest station in this sector #babylon 5: if this is our last best hope we’re all doomed #(These tags didn’t start as a Holy Grail references #but they took a turn for the Python #and who was I to stop them)
(tags via karethdreams)
And let’s not forget that Babylon 4 didn’t just disappear, it got caught in some fucked-up time-distortion/time-travel crap. Which, incidentally, was the single best-executed example of time travel/time loops/paradoxes/altering the timeline stuff I’ve ever seen.
The show is all “Babylon 5 was built by humans because humans are the ones who create communities blah blah” but honestly? It was a human thing because only humans are hard-headed enough to keep throwing money, materials, personnel, and effort into a project that seems pretty clearly doomed, not once or twice, but FIVE TIMES OVER. Humanity provided the means to save the universe out of sheer stubbornness. Go us?

You know what I love about the Babylon 5 fandom? The fact that the older members are all like “oh you like the thing? WELCOME! Watch out for the Vorlons.” There’s no ego and I noticed when someone new comes in, people make an effort not to spoil the show. for them. Also there’s literally no shipping wars. And the SuperWhoLocks don’t know we exist! (Side note I don’t hate the who locks I just noticed that they keep trying to get the fannibals)
Haha, oh man, but now I’m curious as to what BabaSuperWhoLock 5 would look like!
I don’t know but now I have the rhyme “Ba Ba Black Sheep” stuck in my head…
BabaSuperWhoLock 5 sounds like a PsiCorp trigger phrase or something….
Don’t give them ideas. The PsiCorps has enough of their own without fandom contributing to them.
Seriously, though, the B5 fandom is probably one of the chillest fandom groups I’ve ever come across. You know what my favorite part about it is, though?
There’s no judgement. You could be an old fan of the show. You could be a brand new one. We don’t care. The general attitude seems to be that as long as you love it, we love you, too.
It’s funny because, in a way, I feel like our fandom does what the station itself set out to accomplish in the first place, and you know what? It’s beautiful.
The Babylon Fandom, Tumblr’s last, best hope for peace.
there’s a post in the delenn tag about her being ‘essentially non-violent’ and i’m
really not sure how i feel about that
…wait are we like…even referring to the same character here? Because. Um.
Like my best read of Delenn would be basically that she is essentially a pragmatist.
She would like for the world to be nonviolent. And I think she truly believes, that when everyone is being the best version of themselves (and I see her trying to help people do that), that it’s entirely possible for such a world to exist. That’s the deeply spiritual, priestess-y side of her that’s most of what we see, the side Lennier refers to when he tells the other Minbari that she doesn’t walk in the same world as the rest of them, and in her world everyone is better than they are.
But she also understands that shit needs to get done. And that there are situations where violence is either the only option, or the one most likely to succeed. And when those come up, she is strong enough to accept that and is willing to pay the price for it. Part of that spiritual side of her is understanding that, well, sometimes you have to make a stand and fight for what matters. And sometimes it gets messy.
I do think she is more committed to trying to keep things non-violent when we see her in the series, than she was in her past. See: War, Earth-Minbari.
But I gotta say, someone who is essentially non-violent doesn’t make a skin-of-one’s-teeth getaway from the Drakh, then turn around two seconds later with death in her eyes and be like “Yeah we’re gonna go back and fuck their shit up. Come on, guys. Let’s do it.” Nor does an essentially non-violent person show up in warships, and respond to a “get out of my way” from an opposing force with “pffft bro you do realize I could blow you all to hell in the time it takes you to issue a single order, right? I suggest *you* get out of *my* way before I do exactly that.”
I wonder how many B5 fans are eventually going to own these little guys. We’ll have a world full of cute reptiles named G’Kar, Na’Toth, etc
