That Feminist Dyke: "Voting third party is throwing your vote away"

fyeahpoliscipanda:

In a major election such as a presidential election when conducted in a two party system, voting for third parties will only affect the vote by virtue of withholding votes from one of the two major party candidates. No…

Every time I see someone say this: I cringe. Because this is how people remain slaves to the capitalist state.

Don’t vote. Any vote is throwing your vote away. Revolt instead.

If voting would change anything it would be illegal.

Don’t shame people for trying to have an original thought instead of a being Borg.

Some folks need a much deeper political analysis.

This is in my top 5 reasons of Why I Fucking Loathe Election Year.  (Also featuring top singles such as Dear Fucking Gods That Guy Is Evil Incarnate, Shut The Fuck Up Faux News, and These Debates Are Only Good For Drinking Games.)  There is a complex and nuanced discussion to be had about how to change a 2-party monopoly and the values of voting in that process.  This is not that discussion.  Nor is pretty much any version of it I ever see in a given election year.

Nobody is obligated to vote, not even for the lesser of two evils, if they cannot bring themselves to compromise their principles enough to hold their nose and vote for someone who just happens to violate those principles slightly less than the other guy.

Nobody is obligated to not vote, and voting for the lesser of two evils is a perfectly valid choice that does not make one a slave to anything or a fucking Borg.

My vote.  MINE.

Sometimes voting is a privilege...

Trigger warning for domestic violence/domestic violence situations.

emmawearscombatboots:

I cannot vote because I am a survivor of domestic violence.

I have to keep my address confidential. You have to register with a residential address and voting records are PUBLIC.

If I were to register to vote, that would mean putting my address out there and putting my self in danger. My abusive…

Y’all, read this. THIS is a very, very good explanation of why it is dangerous for me to vote.

(Actually, if you just change out ‘ex-boyfriend’ to ‘former friend’, you’ve got a pretty good peek into my daily life & thought process. Simple shit becomes risky. It’s exhausting, dealing with it every single day.)

Scary truth.

Dorothy Cooper, age 96 and a retired domestic worker living in Chattanooga, never had any trouble voting even in the Jim Crow era and missed only one election in her entire adult life. But when she went for one of the state’s new free photo IDs last month so she could keep voting, they turned her away. Why? Her maiden name, Dorothy Alexander, is on her birth certificate, and she didn’t have her marriage license.
Due to Tennessee’s new voting law, she has to have a state photo ID to vote and now, even with her current voter registration card, she can’t get one.

She is older than Voting Rights Act.
Like let’s get this really real yall
Mama has voted without bureaucratic bullshit in JIM DAMN CROW
but the new millenium is trying to keep her out cause her birth certificate  ( which is older than the current incarnations of both parties) has her maiden name
from back when the probably write that shit in fountain pen…
I quit all of you
EVERY SINGLE ONE

doing math : She has been eligible to vote since 1937
……
SHE HAD LESS TROUBLE VOTING AROUND FDR vs. LANDON than OBAMA vs.ROMNEY

There are too many things wrong with this.

SEE HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO VOTE?!?!?!!!
There would be a LOT fewer Teabaggers in Congress right now, if more people had voted.

Young people, please register to vote. Even if you are more of the conservative/republican whatever type. Right now most voters are older and, frankly, they don’t seem all that concerned with the future. And it’s our future.
Check out Rock The Vote. They’ll help you out.
And if you don’t vote, don’t you dare complain about politics.

For American followers. It’s the same here in the UK though I am sure. If more young people voted we’d have a huge impact and it is OUR future. Not our parents and grandparents. I need to put myself back on the voting register thing. I forgot to put myself back on when I moved.

The bit about teabaggers, though…assumes that if we all registered to vote we’d vote Dem.  Which, um.  No.  Also, don’t fucking vote-shame people.  In some places, your options are far-right-fundamentalist or Blue Dog conserva-dem who’s just as antichoice and pro-corporation as their opponent.  So then who do you vote for?
If someone has such shitty options that they feel their only option is to NOT vote, that does not take away their right to have opinions and talk about politics.  Don’t you DARE try to take that right away, just because they couldn’t force themselves to hold their nose and vote for the lesser of two evils.

Feminist, Witch, writer. I say "fuck" a lot. Like, a LOT. I do not believe in being polite to my oppressors, or anyone's oppressors, really. Intersectionality or GTFO.

This blog is mostly recreational douchebag evisceration (rhetorical only, unless you happen to be within arm's reach, and then I make no promises), a healthy dose of cat pictures and beautiful things, and varying amounts of venting about my offline life. There won't be much fandom stuff, but what there is will probably be Bablyon 5, Leverage, Elementary, or Avengers.

Relevant demographics for purposes of privilege-related discussions: White, always-thought-I-was-cis-but-maybe-I'm-not?, possibly genderfluid, or maybe bigender female/genderqueer, FAAB, fat, queer/bisexual, pagan, Witch (yes they are two different things), currently-able-bodied, allistic, middle-class (lower-middle currently, grew up upper-middle), university-educated.

Pronouns currently negotiable. She/her is still okay, they/them is slightly better at the moment, he/him may be preferred at times but I'll say so when it is.

Side blogs:
Unnaturally Gorgeous, my makeup blog

Dark Ocean Designs, the blog for my chainmaille jewelry side business

I Maked A Thing, where I post my various creative endeavors; currently it's mostly fractal art and scrap bits of maillework that aren't ready to go on the "official" maille blog, but sometimes also photography, and maybe at some point bits of fiction

My Etsy store: Dark Ocean Designs

My offsite political/social issues blog, Witch.Words, may be found here.
